What I’m Working on Right Now with T1D: Weight Loss and Staying Consistent

I’ve tried to get consistent with this more times than I can count.

Right now, I’m working on something that feels simple on the surface, but has been anything but: getting more consistent with my blood sugars while also trying to lose about 20 pounds.

Over the years, I’ve learned that even a little bit of exercise really helps keep my blood sugars in check and supports weight loss. My challenge has always been consistency. I’ll do really well at first… and then I get off track.

This time, I’m doing things a little differently. I thought it might help not just me, but maybe someone else, too, if I shared my progress along the way.

Exercise isn’t my favorite thing, but I can’t ignore how much it affects my energy, my focus, and how I start my day. When I’m consistent, my blood sugars are more stable, and I feel better overall.

So instead of jumping in all at once, I’m taking a different approach. I’m starting small.

Because weight loss depends a lot on what you eat, I’m also planning to eat more protein, which is not something I’m great at. I do love carbs.

I’m also adding in daily movement, nothing extreme, just something I can stay consistent with, like 20 minutes a day of strength training or walking. I’m not increasing it until I feel ready, even if that takes a while.

This isn’t a “before and after” story. It’s a “while I’m in it” story.

Some days will go well. Some won’t. There will be numbers I’m proud of and numbers that frustrate me. But instead of waiting until everything is perfect, I’m choosing to share the process as it’s happening.

If you’re also navigating Type 1 Diabetes, trying to lose weight, or just working toward feeling better in your body, you’re not alone in this.

I’m going to keep sharing what I’m trying, what’s working, and what isn’t.

And if you’ve found something that works for you, I’d genuinely love to hear it.

I’m figuring this out as I go, and I’ll keep sharing along the way.
